Corey Hammond After starting college studying physiotherapy, Corey soon realised that this type of learning wasn’t for him, and decided to embark on an engineering apprenticeship at Alpha Manufacturing. Upon completing his three year Engineering Apprenticeship, Corey used his education from the shop floor and his natural business acumen to take the next step into being a Technical Sales Engineer, providing customers with the same knowledge and understanding, to sell Alpha’s products and provide an excellent customer experience. Though not a conventional start to his career, Corey is studying a Business and Management Honours Degree through the Open University with funding from Alpha Manufacturing.

“I always enjoyed being part of a team during my apprenticeship and there were many team activities to get involved with, such as designing, building and racing your own soapbox, which was a great experience. I thoroughly enjoyed going through the rotation of the company and very quickly absorbing knowledge from each sector of the business, discovering my specific interests in programming machinery and design engineering. I also enjoyed going out to visit schools and informing younger individuals on the benefits of an apprenticeship not only with Alpha, but generally.”

“I enjoyed representing the company that I’m proud to be part of in open evenings and giving tours of the premises to other, like-minded aspiring students. I am very passionate about explaining the capabilities of the company and the investments Alpha are frequently putting into training those who wish to be successful. The company are very good at bringing out the best in you and before long, Alpha’s Commercial Director, Robin Eley, provided the opportunity for me to do my degree in Business and Management and become a Technical Sales Engineer.”

“My role as a Technical Sales Engineer involves using my three year background of engineering training, machine operations and engineering theory in combination with my communication skills to find and maintain new business relationships and help to provide a seamless experience for complete customer satisfaction. Due to my knowledge of the manufacturing process, I thought I would fit into the sales role very well as I am able to sell the product I spent three years learning about. I use VAVE (Value Analysis/Value Engineering) to find ways to adjust the design of a fabricated part therefore reducing costs to support our customers but to also stay ahead of the competition. I have always been a very driven and ambitious student, so, in the future I want to work up to be a part of the senior management team here at Alpha, as I see a long future with the company, as I continue to train and develop my skills over time with the Alpha family and become the best version of myself I possibly can be.”

“In my free time, I enjoy staying physically fit through the gym, training in MMA (primarily focusing on kickboxing and Brazilian ju-jitsu) and the outdoors, specifically hiking or camping. I’ve found fitness and exercise an excellent way to not only staying physically fit but also to help stay mentally focused outside of work.”
